High Park Outfitters is an Owner operated 4th generation Cattle Ranch that offers an excellent opportunity for your hunt of a lifetime. This working cattle operation is what the Real West is all about and the game that is on site is available for your pursuit. The Haynes/Green family is allowing a limited number (2 to 4 per camp) of hunters for Archery, Muzzleloading and Rifle Hunts. Depending on the method, seasons vary from early September through early November with no more than 4 hunters per camp.
The licensed/bonded and insured hunts are conducted on a combination of thousands of acres of private family owned ground along with permitted BLM ground with a variety of terrain and elevations. Located on the backside of Pikes Peak just North of Cañon City and West of Cripple Creek the ranch is situated in a spot that is not only beautiful but has an abundance of opportunities for that trophy animal. The terrain is best hunted as spot and stalk but other options are available.
Land owner vouchers may be available to acquire licenses for some of the seasons (all Deer licenses in Colorado are by Draw). Some licenses are available over the counter as the hunts are primarily conducted at this time in Big Game area 581.
The camp consists of a 1800's Log Cabin Bunk House with beds and your meals are prepared by the Camp Cook. (probably Butch) Steaks are a good dinner and a full home style breakfast are what you can expect to find. A shower is also available but there is no electricity at this remote cabin.
When the hunting is good it is great and when the hunting is bad it is hunting. We won't promise you the moon and we wont brag up what probably was never there to start off with. Hunting, as you well know is a luck of the draw and many factors must come into place for one to be successful including the season, the moon, weather conditions, game movement, the hunters ability, physical and shooting wise, the property where one is hunting and the outfitters knowledge and capabilities as well.
It takes a lot for all of these factors to align. That is why hunting is not guaranteed. This is not a cage hunt and these animals are free range and if everything comes together for the time when a hunter is in our camp then his chance for success greatly increases. What we will promise you is that we will do everything in our power (that is legal) to assure your success while hunting with us. You will eat well, sleep well and hunt well with guides that know this ranch and the surrounding areas like the back of their hands.
The game in area 581 is abundant but travels fair distances which sometimes could mean little or no game but also could mean lots of game. The Deer herd has steadily increased over the last 5 years and the resident Deer on the Ranch are growing bigger every year. The Bears are plentiful and will follow where the food is in the Fall of the year. We have 5 different color fazes and see them frequently. The wild card is the Elk, the herd is large but travels frequently. One day they are there and the next day they are gone and maybe back again the next. This is what Elk do. The opportunity is definitely there but hunting is hunting.
Area 581 has a 4 point Elk Restriction, increasing the areas mature bulls. This is a good area and we have access to a few other properties and work with other Outfitters to try and keep the Elk from hanging up on some place that might not be huntable.
- Buffalo Hunts can also be conducted separately or in conjunction with other hunts for an additional fee.
- Cow Elk hunts are also available during varying seasons at reduced rates and can also be added as an additional license (based upon availability) during a regular Bull Hunt for the cost of the license. With this, one could hunt a Bull and a Cow at no additional charge except for the license.
- Coyote Trapping, Predator Calling and winter Cow Elk Hunts along with Turkey and Bighorn Sheep Hunts can also be arranged. (Maybe Antelope along with Buffalo as well.)
- Spring and Fall Roundup (Cattle Operation) can also be arranged to fit your needs (a great family 3 day getaway.)
- Depending on the season we have other properties available to us in case we need to look at other options.
- Hunting is conducted on foot and with 4-wheel drives. (NO PRIVATE CLIENT ATV’S ON SITE). Horses are also used on occasion.
- Duration of the hunts run 5 days. Come in on a Friday, hunt Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and if the season allows additional days can be added depending on each individuals circumstances.
- One guide per 2 hunters (1 on 1 can be arranged)
- Transportation is supplied from Cañon City, Colorado but other arrangements can be made if needed. The nearest airport is Colorado Springs, Colorado and pickup can be made there as well.
- All hunts require a 50% Booking Deposit to hold a space. The remaining balance is to be paid in cash prior to the beginning of each hunt. Once a hunter has filled he can stay and relax, go sight seeing or whatever. It's his or her vacation.
We can provide assistance with your Colorado DOW license application if needed. We cannot guarantee you a deer/elk license, but we may be able to provide license vouchers to some of our hunters who were unsuccessful in the license draw.
